The area in
Marbella known as the Golden Mile runs from the western edge of the town and
stretches to
Puerto Banus. The Golden Mile is separated into two parts by a motorway and
is home to some of the most cosmopolitan and upmarket property in the Costa del
Sol. Marbella has a long and interesting history and was an important town named
Salduba during the Roman period.
Main Tourist Attractions
The long stretches of beach supply plenty of opportunities to relax in the sun
or to windsurf, jet ski or parasail. Golfers are attracted to this area as there
are a number of well-known golf courses within easy reach of the Golden Mile.
Other sports venues are located in this area which cater for activities such as
tennis, bowling, badminton and fishing. Take a trip to the breathtaking Marbella
Mosque which was built by the King of Saudi Arabia and overlooks the beautiful
scenery of the Golden Mile area. Towards the far western side of The Golden Mile
is Rio Verde where there are beautifully preserved Roman baths with mosaics.
Every Sunday car enthusiasts can savour the delights of the machines owned by
members of the Ferrari Association, who gather in front of a well-known
restaurant on The Golden Mile.
Shopping Opportunities
The Golden Mile is littered with shopping centres, boutiques and designer
outlets and is truly a shopper’s paradise! You will find designer shops offering
authentic Spanish designer clothing as well as internationally known names.
Leather goods, shoes, perfume, jewellery, souvenirs, electrical goods, watches
and much more is on offer in this part of Marbella. Serious shoppers will also
appreciate the proximity of The Golden Mile to the vast shopping centres at
Elviria.
Eating out and Nightlife
There is an abundance of bars, restaurants and cafés to be savoured in this part
of Marbella. Alongside the traditional Spanish staples such as paella and Tapas,
you will find a wealth of international cuisine to suit all tastes and all
budgets. Taking a walk along the promenades will allow you to enjoy the friendly
and lively atmosphere whilst deciding which one of the many eateries to enjoy
your meal in.
The nightlife at The Golden Mile and the nearby marina at Puerto Banus are two
favourite hotspots for tourists. As well as discos and nightclubs there are many
karaoke, cabaret and live entertainment venues to relish. Many fairs and markets
are held late into the evenings during the summer months and so the whole family
can paint the town red until the wee small hours.
