Puerto Banus is situated approximately 6 kilometres to the west of
Marbella,
before you reach the town of
San Pedro. Opened in 1970 with a range of important
guests, Puerto Banus is an upmarket area where many famous people spend their
holidays. The focal point, without question, is the large marina where you will
find beautiful and expensive boats moored. Puerto Banus is the millionaire’s
playground of the Costa del Sol, but it has not isolated tourists from what it
has to offer.
Main Tourist Attractions
Visitors can enjoy such attractions as the marine observatory in Puerto Banus,
which offers displays of sharks, stingrays and exotic marine life. There are
clean and sandy beaches located on either side of the marina where you can enjoy
a variety of watersports including windsurfing, jet skiing and parasailing or
simply relax with the family in the sun. Golf and other sporting activities such
as horse riding, tennis, badminton and hang-gliding are easily accessible in the
immediate vicinity of Puerto Banus. It also hosts a multiplex cinema showing
films in a variety of languages. The breathtaking three ton sculpture of a
rhinoceros by the artist Salvador Dali is certainly worth viewing.
Shopping Opportunities
In league with Marbella, Puerto Banus has a vast range of shopping opportunities
for its tourists. There is a large shopping centre as well as an El Cortes
Ingles department store. Many designer brands can be bought in the fine
boutiques and visitors can buy a range of items including jewellery, perfume,
shoes, handbags, art, pottery, electrical goods and souvenirs. There is also an
open market held in Puerto Banus every Saturday where you will find many
bargains and can practise your haggling skills.
Eating out and Nightlife
Puerto Banus offers a wide range of bars, restaurants and cafés to its visitors.
Many fine dining establishments can be found along the marina offering a variety
of traditional Spanish and international cuisine. You will find Tapas, tortillas
and seafood coupled with dishes from Britain, France and Italy.
As with its close neighbour, Marbella, Puerto Banus has an exciting and buzzing
nightlife. There is a casino, discos and nightclubs here which will keep you
occupied until dawn the next day. If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing
evening, Puerto Banus can offer this too; there are several serene spots to sit
and enjoy the warmth of the evening and friendly residents alike.
