Carvajal is an urbanised area located on the outskirts of
Fuengirola in the
Costa del Sol. It is approximately 10 kilometres south of the popular village of
Mijas and 6 kilometres from the heart of Fuengirola. The district is filled with
apartments, townhouses and villas, many of which have been built in the
traditional whitewashed walls style typically found in Andalucian pueblos.
Main Tourist Attractions
Carvajal has its own beach which is clean and perfect for relaxing during your
stay. There are many water sports you can choose to do including diving,
fishing, parasailing and windsurfing. There are chiringuitos (beach bars) dotted
along the sands for you to enjoy a cool drink whilst soaking up the sun.
Fuengirola has a host of attractions including a zoo; the animals are free to
roam enclosures that reflect their natural habitats. The Miramar shopping centre
has a cinema where films are shown in different languages. Solhail Castle is a
must for history enthusiasts; this Arab castle is well preserved and sits atop a
hill on the outskirts of Fuengirola. It offers great views of the surrounding
landscapes and offers an insight into Fuengirola’s turbulent history. The nearby
village of Mijas has a water park, a bullring, several museums and a racetrack.
Shopping Opportunities
There are many good shops in the area, where you will find all the holiday
essentials you need, as well as good such as clothing, shoes, sunglasses,
souvenirs and toys. Fuengirola has the Miramar commercial centre which is a
haven for shopaholics. Here you will find many items including designer branded
clothes, perfume, jewellery, ceramics, art and watches. On the outskirts of the
resort is an El Cortes Ingles department store. There are several street markets
held throughout the week, which offer shoppers the opportunity to pick up a
bargain and practice their bartering skills. As well as a range of fresh fruit
and vegetables, the markets offer items such as bric-a-brac, antiques and
handicrafts. Mijas has a range of small and interesting shops to visit.
Eating out and Nightlife
This area has several beach bars and restaurants for visitors to enjoy. You can
savour some of the traditional Spanish meals or order some renowned
international dishes. In either direction from Carvajal, you will soon come
across even more restaurants bars and cafés to stop for a bite to eat.
Carvajal is well placed to enjoy nightclubs, discos and bars within the
immediate area. Fuengirola has a vibrant and lively nightlife but it also has
spots of tranquillity where you can relax on the balcony with a bottle of wine –
Carvajal is one such place.
