Alcaidesa is a town situated in the west of the Costa del Sol region, between
Sotogrande
and San Roque. The town is most noted for its stunning views of the
Mediterranean and clean sweeping shoreline. The resort was started in the early
1990’s and has an air of sophistication, yet maintains a somewhat Spanish rustic
charm.
Main Tourist Attractions
Golfers will love this area of the Costa del Sol as there are many courses,
including the
Alcaidesa Links Golf Course. There are also upmarket courses in
nearby Sotogrande and San Roque. The stunning beach which is clean and sandy, is
perfect for soaking up the sun or partaking in watersports such as sailing,
surfing and jet skiing. Nearby Sotogrande has a
nature reserve and a whole host
of sporting activities such as horse riding, squash and
polo. Taking a short
trip to
Estepona allows visitors to experience the bullring, with its four
museums; alternatively you can take in the historical watch towers from the time
of the Moors or relax in a serene, green park.
Shopping Opportunities
Due to the fact that Alcaidesa is still in development there are no retail
outlets to speak of at the present time. There are plans to build a shopping
centre and mall in the near future. Sotogrande has some shopping opportunities
including two fairs held every week, which offer a variety of items, including
antiques. Alcaidesa is a short distance from the rock of Gibraltar where serious
shoppers can spend the day haggling with stall holders in the colourful bazaars.
The town of Estepona is about a half hour drive from Alcaidesa and boasts two
shopping centres. Here you will find items for purchase including pottery,
jewellery, perfume, shoes, clothing and beautiful Spanish souvenirs.
Eating out and Nightlife
The town has one
restaurant which caters for those who love Spanish food such as
tortilla, paella and Tapas. There are also several international dishes on the
menu as Alcaidesa is a popular destination with many tourists. There is a bar
located on the beach which serves a selection of local beers and wines as well
as some international favourites. More restaurants and bars are situated in
Estepona which cater for all palates.
Alcaidesa does not have any discos or nightclubs; Estepona has a small but
lively nightclub scene in the marina area of the town. Warm evenings in
Alcaidesa are spent wandering the streets and relaxing with a glass of wine and
some Tapas.
