Guadiaro is a small village located close to the town of
Sotogrande and is a stone’s throw from Pueblo Nuevo de Guadiaro. It is
approximately 16 kilometres to the east of San Roque. Lying inland it has many
villas and apartments that offer spectacular mountain and sea views. Guadiaro
offers the visitor a setting filled with tranquillity but is ideally located to
go out and explore the surrounding area.
Main Tourist Attractions
The area offers ample opportunity to pursue activities such as rock climbing,
mountain biking, hiking, walking and bird watching. Nearby San Roque has the
famous Pinar el Rey forest, a bullring and museums to enjoy. Sotogrande has an
excellent golf course and golfing academy, as well as spa facilities and the
chance to play some polo. Other sporting activities available in the immediate
area of Guadiaro include tennis, football, badminton and squash. There are
several beaches close by, particularly Tarifa beach and the beach in the village
of Sabinillas. Here you can simply enjoy relaxing on the clean sands or take
part in some water sports such as jet skiing. A short drive to the village of
Manilva gives visitors the chance to see some Roman sulphur baths and an
aqueduct.
Shopping Opportunities
Guadiaro has several supermarkets in the area which provide visitors and
residents with the everyday essentials. A short trip to Pueblo Nueva de Guadiaro
presents a small commercial centre in which to buy items such as clothing,
leather goods, shoes, potter, souvenirs and toys. Sotogrande has its own
shopping centre, the Sotomarket, and also has arts & crafts fairs twice a week
near the marina. Guadiaro is the perfect base for hopping over to Gibraltar for
a day of tax-free shopping in the brightly coloured bazaars.
Estepona and Puerto du la Duquesa also have a range of interesting shops.
Eating out and Nightlife
There are several cafés and restaurants located in Guadiaro, with many of the
larger establishments only minutes away in Pueblo Nueva de Guadiaro. Fish is one
of the main dishes to be found in this area of the Costa del Sol due to the
close ties with the sea. Sabinillas has some good seafood restaurants and Puerto
du la Duquesa offers some great fine dining venues. Many restaurants, bars and
cafes have a variety of dishes both from Spain and other countries such as
Italy, France and Britain.
There are no nightclubs or discos located in Guadiaro which makes it a haven for
those looking for relaxing and peaceful evenings. Many of the bars in Sotogrande
and Puerto du la Duquesa provide music, karaoke and live entertainment and are
open until the early hours of the next morning.
