La Mairena 

La Mairena is a tranquil and serene development located approximately 5 minutes inland from Elviria. Building in this area is severely limited and it has been designated as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. This means that there are fewer apartments and villas allowing great views of the surrounding areas. It is surrounded by cork trees and is one of the most stylish and peaceful of the Marbella urbanisations.

Main Tourist Attractions

The urban area is home to several sporting facilities including a 9 hole golf course which golfers will love to play on. There are several renowned golf clubs nearby including Santa Maria and Cabopino. La Mairena also has a tennis club which is run by the coach of the famous player, Steffi Graf. Other sports including volleyball, squash and badminton can be found in nearby Elviria. There are also several beaches including the famous Nikki Beach in Elviria. On the north side of La Mairena is the Sierra Blanca Mountains which are popular with visitors who love mountain biking, walking and hiking. La Mairena is also only a short journey from the centre of Marbella where you will find a range of historic buildings, pleasant squares and green parks.

Shopping Opportunities

La Mairena is limited for shopping in the immediate area but is close to the two large shopping centres at Elviria. Here you will find many designer boutiques and family-owned businesses as well as internally known retailers. You can purchase items such as clothing, handbags, footwear, perfume, jewellery, art, pottery, linen, gardening equipment and antiques. Elviria also has a weekly market held on a Friday. If you still feel the need to shop, La Canada Shopping Centre and the famous Golden mile are available for a short journey from Elviria to Marbella.

Eating out and Nightlife

There are a few restaurants and cafés located in the district of La Mairena. These are somewhat traditional in nature, serving authentic Spanish cuisine including paella. Some of them may cater for those who prefer international cuisine and there is a great selection of regional wines and beers to choose from.

There are few bars in La Mairena and the nightlife in the district is very subdued. Most evening consist of a delicious meal in a beautiful restaurant followed by a pleasant walk around the development. Elviria has a few bars which provide discos and live music for visitors. Marbella is the place to go if you are looking to dance away the hours until the morning light.
