Mijas Golf is a purpose built resort which pays particular attention to golf! It
is located approximately 15 minutes from the old Spanish village of
Mijas and is
close to the bustling resort town of
Fuengirola. The urbanised area is filled
with luxurious whitewashed villas and enjoys tranquil and green surroundings. It
is the perfect base for those mad about the game of golf but also allows easy
travel to other attractions in this part of the Costa del Sol.
Major Tourist Attractions
The resort offers two courses, namely Los Lagos and Los Olivos, which lovers of
the game can enjoy. The villas come with swimming pools and give visitors the
chance to relax in wonderful surroundings. Foe sightseeing, head to nearby Mijas
where you can visit one of the oldest and smallest bullrings in the region. The
Virgin of the Rock Shrine is a wonder to behold; carved into the rock face and
there is the opportunity to view some artefacts that were found in the caves.
Mijas also has a water park which the children of the group will enjoy
immensely. Fuengirola has a zoo where many rare and exotic animals can be seen.
It is an open air zoo and the animals are housed in replicas of their natural
environments. Further along from Fuengirola is
Arroyo de la Miel
and this is
where you will find Tivoli world. A theme park with over 30 attractions and
rides, it will appeal to children and those in their second childhood.
Shopping Opportunities
There is a pro-golf shop attached to the courses at Mijas Golf; there are few
shops scattered around the residential area which offer goods needed on a daily
basis. Mijas has a good range of shops, most of which are run by local families.
Fuengirola is a shopper’s paradise; as well as the large El Cortes Ingles store
on the outskirts of town, there is the Miramar shopping centre. Here you will
find a comprehensive stock of clothing, pottery, shoes, ceramics, art,
electrical goods, gardening equipment and souvenirs.
Eating Out and Nightlife
There are several cafés, bars and restaurants that can be found in Mijas Golf.
They serve the authentic Spanish meals you would expect alongside international
favourites. A host of local wines and beers are available to accompany your
meal.
For those who like their evening to last until the next morning, you can take a
short journey to Fuengirola. Here there are many bars, discos and nightclubs to
suit all tastes.
