Our Inspection Trip To Turkey

January 2005

View from Mal's room overlooking the many pools

What a great couple of days we had! The temperature was in the 70's , not bad for January hey?
I noticed a lot of long stay Germans in our hotel who stayed for the Christmas and new year period what a great  tan they all had.

I took a few images over the two days we were in Turkey and will list these off on this page with a little text to go with it, here goes-

Arriving at Antalya airport

The first thing that hit me was a pleasant  smell of logs burning.
I gave up smoking 3 months prior to this visit so I have a bloodhounds nose right now.

The above is an image of the beach at the rear of the hotel.

look carefully at the above image.
Can you see in the background the Taurus mountains with snow at the peak?
Stunning scenery.

Here you can see how clear the sea water is. (Mediterranean)

An image of the hotel as I walked back from the beach.

Another image of one of the pools , please note the stray cats laying out their towels before the Germans do, at the bottom of the image.

There were at least seven cats and I felt the need to feed them each morning.
I would go into the hotel breakfast area , sneak a load of sliced meat , then make a quick exit.
I would change my jumper then make another assault on the breakfast area , each time the hotel security would say "good morning" I didn't reply as they may recognise me by my voice.
I did this at least 6 times during breakfast as the cats were very skinny, and as a welsh man ,I had to do my duty and feed them. A word of warning , they were strays and would rip your hands off to get at the meat so I had to just drop it on the floor and try to get some food to each of them or they would fight each other if one had less than the other. Here follows a few more images and quotes from the cats from hell.

"Get back in the breakfast hall yer wimp"!

"Actually, if you don't mind, I prefer chicken slices."

"We are the Daddies"!

I eat out in the evening as it may have been a little more difficult getting Shepard's pie or chicken curry in my pockets for the stray ones.
I can hear you all asking "Did you buy anything in Turkey on this inspection trip"?

Yes I did , I bought an amazing kebab which wasn't full of dribbling fat.

The high streets are full of places to eat and drink.
(The above image was taken by Mal in Side  as they made my kebab)
2 kebabs with all the sauces and salad cost us 4 euros (£2.80)

The old city high street in Side Turkey.

Everyone wants to sell you something
Be polite and just say "no thanks" rather than ignore them, or say yes and find when you get to the airport they refuse to load your 12.... 50X50 ft carpets into the hold.

The night before I return home to the UK
Superb sunset.

O ......yes I did buy a place , 3 bedroom apartment in Side 11 development.
I plan to return to Turkey in the summer of 2006 when our apartment should be completed.
I loved the people and the history of this amazing area they call Side (Side translated = pomegranate)

To conclude:
I had a beer in the old town of Side , walked around a corner and was faced by this impressive piece of history called Apollo where Anthony and Cleopatra are stated to have met, this area of Turkey is full of surprises like the above.
I had to have another beer to calm down after taking the above image!
