Sotogrande Alto is an urbanised area that lies to the north of the town of
Sotogrande. It has a mixture of upmarket townhouses and villas and is one of
the most popular areas in the vicinity of the town. Many of the homes have a
traditional Spanish feel and offer great panoramic views of the mountains and
sea.
Major Tourist Attractions
Sotogrande Alto is very close to the golf courses and golfing academy in the
heart of Sotogrande. As well as the challenging golf courses, there is the
opportunity to try some polo, horse riding and tennis. There are more golf
courses in the immediate area including those of San Roque and Almenara. Nearby
Puerto du la Duquesa has an excellent marina and promenade to stroll along and
watch the large boats and yachts being moored. A short trip to the historic
village of
Manilva will excite history enthusiasts with its ruined aqueduct and 3rd
century Roman sulphur bathhouse. The town of La Linea is filled with museums and
the ruins of Castel Santa Barbara are a popular attraction. There is ample beach
areas surrounding Sotogrande Alto and many provide activities such as jet
skiing, windsurfing, parasailing and diving. For those who love competitive
fishing, a day trip to
La Linea is essential.
Shopping Opportunities
Sotogrande Alto is mainly a residential area but shopping opportunities exist
nearby. A short walk to the centre of Sotogrande itself will offer shopaholics
the chance to browse the large Sotomarket complex. Here you will find a range of
items and a small department of the El Cortes Ingles Company. Many renowned
fashion labels and brands can be purchased here. There is another shopping
complex being built and will be ready in the near future. Puerto du la Duquesa
has some small and interesting shops. A day trip to Gibraltar is only a small
journey away; leave Spain at Algeciras and enjoy hours of retail therapy in the
bazaars of Gibraltar.
Eating Out and Nightlife
Many bars, cafés and restaurants are within short walking distance of Sotogrande
Alto. There are varied menus which include the traditional Spanish dishes you
would expect, alongside cuisine from countries such as Britain, Morocco and
France.
Due to its location, Sotogrande Alto does not have any nightclubs or discos.
Evenings are solely quiet affairs with the chance to relax or enjoy a drink with
the friendly locals. Puerto du la Duquesa and the marina area of Sotogrande have
some bars that provide entertainment and music that can be enjoyed until dawn.
