POSTAL INFORMATION - There are 2 main post offices, one in Mahon
and one in Ciudadela. If you only require postal stamps these can be
bought from tobacconists (ESTANCO OR TABACALERA) 50 centimos is the
current rate (2002) for a postcard and normal letter. It is important to
put the name and address of the sender on the back of the envelope and do
not use sellotape to seal letters. Telegrams can only be sent from a main
post office.
BANKS - Are open 08.30 to 14.00, Monday to Friday, June to
September. They also open Saturday mornings at other times of the year. If
you need to change money, all resorts have exchange offices and the
majority of shops and bars etc., are now happy to change money as well.
SHOPS - The majority of them are open 09.30 to 13.30 and from 17.00
to 20.00 Monday to Friday and Saturday mornings only. If you are in a
resort the shops remain open longer hours, 7 days a week during the
holiday season including fiestas (bank holidays).
PETROL STATIONS - There are 10 petrol stations on the island, one
in each town and on the main through roads. They are open 24 hours a day,
self-service at night.
