and the village of Benagalbon.

Over ten thousand years ago, man first settled in this area during the
Paleolithic era, proven by the prehistoric remains found in the Cueva del
Higueron. The cave is also known as the ´Treasure Cave´ due to two different
legends regarding treasure hidden here either by victims of Christian
persecutions and a Moorish king.
The first mention of Rincon de la Victoria in the history of the region dates
back to roman occupancy as it was a stronghold against coastal attacks. It is
home to a temple from this era dedicated to the moon.
During the 12th century, the Arabs built a stronghold here and the remains of
the Castle of Bezmiliana, the name by which the town was known and the town's
largest remaining green zone, can still be seen in the area known as Castellon.
Unfortunately, the remains have not been adequately protected and have been
jeopardised by construction. Citizens' protest groups are currently fighting to
halt building work in the area.
Rincon de la Victoria has been described as a ‘dormitory town’ as it makes a
convenient base for those who work in the city of Malaga but prefer to live by
the beach. It has a population of 26,600 inhabitants and is popular with the
Spanish who spend their summer months vacationing here; many have a second home
in the region. There has been rapid expansion over the last five years and
services tend to become overstretched when the summer population triples. The
rest of the year the town is a relatively easy going, over grown, fishing
village with a lively seafront which has recently been refurbished and stretches
the entire length of the town. It is possible to walk along to La Cala del Moral
to the shrine of the town’s patron, the Virgen del Carmen, on the rock at the
furthermost tip of the beach.
The beach sweeps the length of the town and is lined with chiringuitos, palm
trees, bars and restaurants where there are many walkers, joggers and cyclists
all taking advantage of the sweeping sandy beaches. The ex-pat population and
visitors tend to be pre-dominantly Scandinavian, German and English.
The Costa del Sol is aptly named – the sun makes an appearance almost every day
and temperatures range from a mild 8ºC in the winter to a very pleasant 30ºC in
the summer, consequently outdoor activities play a huge part in our lives, from
the more energetic pursuits such as sailing, swimming and golf to the very
popular relaxing pastime of eating and drinking!
Enjoy a plethora of sports facilities and a dynamic range of culinary delights
available in the wide selection of fantastic restaurants and cafés in every town
and city on the Costa del Sol!
Culture vultures are certainly not forgotten. The magnificent historical cities
of Sevilla, Granada, Córdoba and Jerez are only a pleasant day trip away. Who
could visit the Alhambra in Granada and not be impressed! Conversely, North
África is an hour’s boat ride across the strait from Algeciras – Morocco,
Tangier, Casablanca - names to fire the imagination.
Enjoy ‘Costa Living’ to the full! Experience the vast cultural heritage of
Andalucía: fairs, festivals, castles, cathedrals, equestrian shows, bull-fights,
fine wines, electrifying flamenco music and dance and much more…
