· How
much does a log home cost?
There are many variables to the price of a log
home, the design, materials, style, size, insulated roof structure and
finish materials are just a few of the many factors. There is no
average price for log homes. A quick rule of thumb is the simpler the
design, the lower the cost.

| · Is log
construction cheaper than conventional?
When compared with high quality conventional
construction, log homes are competitively priced. However, log homes
will be more expensive than modular or low-end conventional
construction. For those who enjoy the solid, natural environment of a
log home, the additional cost is worthwhile.

| · What is the
difference between laminated and normal logs?
Many log home manufacturers use so called natural
(green) or young logs that retain a high water content for the
construction of log homes. When the green logs start to dry out,
twisting, checking and warping can occur especially in hotter
temperatures and may affect the integrity of the construction. We
eliminate these problems by using only the more expensive kiln dried,
specially laminated logs which have the same appearance but an
extremely low moisture content, ideally suited to hotter countries.

|
| · Are log homes
energy efficient?
Yes. If they are built properly log homes are very
efficient because of the thermal mass of the logs. A well-built log
home is typically cool in summer and warm in winter.

|
| · How do I protect
my log home from the elements?
Adequate roof overhangs help as insects and fungi
prefer damp wood. Most log home owners prefer to retain a natural
appearance and will apply a penetrating finish to the outside of their
log home. Log finishes should be a high-quality product that allows
the wood to breathe while serving as a water-repellent and additional
insecticide. Apart from the factory applied protections and
sanitising, all our log homes are protected with approved, tried and
tested timbercare products.

|
| · How often will I
have to re-apply finishes?
To preserve the natural beauty of a log home,
routine maintenance is essential. The natural elements (rain, wind and
sun) where your home is located will determine how often you need to
re-apply, but as a rule no less than every five years.

|
| · What about an
interior finish?
It is a matter of preference. Most owners apply 2
coats of a polyurethane product to interior log walls. Repeated
applications are not necessary.

|
| · Can I build a
log house myself?
Unless you have the specialised building and
carpentry skills, experience, aptitude, physical strength and the
patience for such a project, self-build for our homes is not an
option. It is essential that in order to be energy-efficient, log
homes are built properly as per manufacturer's instructions.

|
| · What guarantees
do log home manufacturers provide?
We provide a 10 year guarantee against any material
defects. Individual items like roof coverings usually carry 25-year
manufacturer's guarantees. The longevity of a well-built log home is
legendary, as some log homes are over 200 years old.

|
| · How long does
it take to construct and build a log home?
If you choose a stock design of average size
opposed to a complex custom build, our manufacturing takes 2/3 weeks,
shipping and delivery to Europe 2/3weeks and construction of the log
home around 2/3 weeks assuming reasonable access and weather. Internal
finishes by others obviously subject to individual specifications and
manufacturers schedules
