Benalmadena - More Properties Embargoed

Benalmádena Council has obtained 900,000 euros from selling embargoed properties in the two months since the scheme started. Manuel Crespo, the councillor responsible for local taxation, says this is a last resort against people who owe the Council money, but the local authority is considering carrying out a second campaign which will involve embargoing bank accounts and cars as well as properties.

Another 250 properties are to be embargoed in the next few weeks, and will be put up for auction once they have been officially valued. The Council says it gives people up to five opportunities to settle their debts, and it can take two years before a property is embargoed, but once the decision is made the local authority goes ahead regardless.
